The story
This is one of Nottingham's oldest and grandest homes, old enough to appear in the Domesday Book. Four floors of original detail, with some of the finest carpentry we have ever worked around.

The brief was simple to say and hard to do: bring the house fully up to date without taking anything away from it. The technology had to serve the house, not compete with it, and none of it could be allowed to spoil the period detail.

The Process
The walls were the first problem. At three feet thick, they had been stopping things from passing through them for centuries, and Wi-Fi was no exception. Reliable coverage took proper network design rather than guesswork. Solving it here told us something useful: if we could tame Wi-Fi inside walls like these, we could do it anywhere.
The second problem was keeping everything out of sight. No boxes on display, no amplifiers cluttering a historic room. A central plant room became the home for all of it, so the technology could run the house without ever being seen in it.
The Solution
Control4 runs the whole estate from a single interface. Heating, lighting, security, blinds, network, multiroom audio, video distribution, the cinema room and concealed TVs, all controlled from anywhere in the house or away from it.
More than 20 zones of audio and 10 TV zones reach across the four floors, with screens hidden until they are wanted, so nothing interrupts the look of a room when the technology is off.
The Result
A house that has stood for the best part of a thousand years, now running on one modern system, with none of it on show. The heritage is untouched, and the technology simply works in the background, which is exactly what a home like this asks for.
